Percy Tau opens for Al Ahly's 3-1 win in CAF.
Pitso Mosimane's Al Ahly managed to secured the second place spot in their CAF Champions League group after their latest win. Mamelodi Sundowns is leading Group A with 10 points and Al Ahly now moved to 7 points in the group after they won 3-1 against Al-Merrikh.
Al Ahly opened the scoring with Percy Tau opening the scoring in the early 19th minute for the 1-0 lead which set up Al Ahly for a chance to end the group in second place. Percy Tau's goal was the only goal in the first half of the match but he didn't get to try again in the second half as he was substituted in the 46th minute as Taher Mohamed replaced him.
Al-Merrikh levelled the score on 1-1 when Ramadan Agab scored in the 60th minute. Al Ahly got back in the lead as Mohamed Sherif scored from Ali Maloul's assist in the 72nd minute for the 2-1 lead.
Al Ahly did remarkably well to extend their lead to 3-1 just a minute later when Ahmed Abdelkader scored in the 73rd minute and Al Ahly held onto their lead for the 3-1 win and the second place spot on 7 points.
Al Ahly is now just three points behind Mamelodi Sundowns who is the the top spot with 10 points as Al-Merrikh and Al-Hilal is left on 4 points each. Al Ahly's chances of progressing to the quarter-finals looks very likely now after their latest win.
