Chiefs didn’t show up on their DStv Premiership clash

(Source: kickoff.com)

Kaizer Chiefs have shocked several football fans by not pitching up to their DStv Premiership encounter against Cape Town City FC which was scheduled on Saturday afternoon at FNB Stadium. This led to the match being called off by the officials, even though City was present and honoured their fixture. However, they couldn’t play by themselves as Amakhosi were nowhere to be seen. According to the reports, Eric Tinkler’s men stated that they followed all their match protocols in hope that Chiefs will make it on time. However, the stadium closed and the Citizens had to do everything inside their bus. “Having followed all matchday procedures, Cape Town City FC was present at FNB Stadium for the start of the match at 18:00. Regrettably, Chiefs did not arrive and the match officials called the game off at 18:15 in accordance with the rules of the game. A sad day for football,” read the official Cape Town City statement.

Even though City was denied entry to the stadium, they kept updating their fans online about the whole situation at FNB Stadium. However, Chiefs did appeal with the Premier Soccer League to have all their December matches postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak within the club. This has caused the Glamour Boys to be immensely careful after numerous Coronavirus cases have surfaced. Amakhosi also did release their official statement, as they felt that they don’t have enough depth of their squad. Even though Stuart Baxter’s men didn’t attend their match, but now all eyes are on the PSL and their decision with their grievances.

According to reports Chiefs have a minimum of 31 people (including players, technical team and backroom staff) that have tested positive for the virus.
