Italy to miss out on their second world cup in succession

Champions of Europe in 2020 Italy have failed yet another year to qualify for the global showdown 2022 Fifa World Cup to be held in the coming months in Qatar. After their heroics in the Euro nations league one would have thought Roberto Mancini's men would have it easy in the world cup qualifiers after they were drawn in a group with Switzerland, Northern Ireland, Bulgaria and Lithuania. [ Source: ]But the Azzurris went on to claim second position which automated they will have to play playoff for them to book a plane ticket to Qatar. In their playoff draw they where drawn against North Macedonia. [ Source: ]

But just as the famous South African commentator Baba Mthethwa once said "there's no therefore in the world of football. " It wasn't to be for Mancinis men in a game they dominated the entire 90 minutes, it had to take a miracle from North Macedonia to steal it in the last minute of the game. They gained progression in the next round of the playoffs that could see them head to Qatar if they go all the way. [ Source: ]

Italy will have to wait another four years to attempt avoiding missing three world cups in a row.
