South Africa football as an industry and/or business is still relatively new. The PSL has made huge strides in terms of regulating and more importantly making sure that the money is coming in to run the leagues. We've seen a huge chance in recent times, even teams who are playing in the lower ranks now have access to much more than they would've an odd 10 years ago. For every journey there has to be challenges and the league is certainly not perfect.
It would be naive to assume that there's no corruption or at least questionable officiating in our leagues and this is said to be more rampant in the lower leagues. The Glad Africa Championship and the ABC Motsep League has had its fair share of scandals and accusations and not many get to make it to the mainstream media.
Jomo Sono's Cosmos took to social to file a complain and also attempt to expose poor officiating which took place during their most recent game. Ezenkosi faced off against Hungry Lions on Saturday and they went on to lose the game 2-1. It seems like they are implying that there was foul play involved as they took to Twitter to share their claims.
Match officials are killing our football in the GladAfricaChampionship I feel sorry for the teams who still need to come here in Kimberly, today we scored 3 legitimate goals but the referre disallowed all of them. @SAFA_net @OfficialPSL @ThatoMoeng @JamesMayinga @LuckyMhlathe
There has been complaints about the officiating even in the highest level which is the PSL. The South African Football Association hasn't shown any urgency in terms of dealing with this issue. We've seen a number of referees who were suspended for a couple of games for making crucial mistakes and this has led to a lack of trust.
This is not the first time Jomo Cosmos have cried wolf about referees in the Glad Africa Championship. Jomo Sono is an experienced campaigner and is well respected in the football space, however he has failed to have his concerns taken seriously by the PSL and SAFA.
