If there is one thing that the South African broadcasting service has proofed from 2020 up until now is that they are willing to give the fans what they truly want.
Ever since the open view HD announced that it will broadcasting Bundesliga as well as EPL games while the Multichoice broadcasted all the games of the PSL, SABC has gotten a serious wake up call- and the recent double announcement shows how much business they mean.
The independent communications authority of South Africa is officially putting an end to exclusivity in sports, citing that sports should be "national interest". What this means is that SABC will now be bringing all 32 PSL matches live to its South African views; meaning that no more watching soccer on weekends only. SABC went on to say that this will be an exceptional move because, it will make them be able to afford the Champions league rights.
But unfortunately...DSTV and PSL are not happy at all with this move:
"We will take them to court if we need to. There is no business in no exclusivity. This move will kill local football and the league. We are within our rights to protect local football and we will do just that, icasa will never get away with this" said both parties.
This move has brought extreme happiness to many fans but it seems that the PSL will stop it by all means. But it does not make sense for viewers to support teams that they don't see playing.
