The FIFA verdict delay with regards to an alleged match-fixing incident between Bafana and Ghana

South Africans have been wondering about their chances of making it to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. This follows after SAFA lodged a complaint about their last game in Group G qualifiers as Ghana defeated Bafana Bafana by a dubious penalty. According to SAFA, the Senegalese referee Maguetta Ndiaye allegedly had a hand in the final results of the game. Hence, there were reports that the match officials were allegedly involved in match-fixing. This led to numerous Mzansi football fans questioning the eligibility of the penalty and even different events that occurred on the day.

Now, the legendary South African referee Ace Ncobo has spoken about the whole Bafana Bafana and Ghana saga, as he dissects the reasons behind FIFA haven’t responding to SAFA’s complaint. This follows after people in Mzansi have been shown concerns over FIFA’s silence over this matter. Since Bafana requested a re-match against Ghana so that the Group G leaders will be determined fairly. However, Ncobo has clarified the whole situation, as he stated that FIFA didn’t say they will have the verdict by the 23rd of November. Without the deadline given to the complaint, this will give FIFA time to sort out this issue and provide detailed feedback and verdict. “As FIFA never said they would reveal the verdict on the 23rd, all FIFA said was, ‘on the 20th, South Africa and Ghana must submit all their documents. Then on the 23rd, the investigation is referred to the disciplinary committee.’ So there was never a deadline given to say the investigation by the disciplinary committee will end on a specific date,” said Ncobo speaking to the media.

According to Ncobo, FIFA needs time to complete the whole investigation process and they can’t rush the verdict. Mzansi will have to be patient with FIFA at this moment. “Because it’s a complicated process, then there was new information that came. So I think we should give FIFA space and time to do its investigation without pressure,” said Ncobo speaking to the media.
