"Orlando Pirates Performance Was 'Not Too Pleasing'." Mandla Ncikazi

After the 3-1 win over Chippa United, Orlando Pirates interim co-coach Mandla Ncikazi admits he was pleased with the outcome but not with the effort.

Phakamani Mahlambi gave Chippa the lead in the 11th minute, but Tshegofatso Mabasa, Abel Mabaso, and Goodman Mosele rallied the Pirates.

In the first 20 minutes, the Chilli Boys had the Pirates on the back foot, and Ncikazi rated his team's start as'very sloppy.'

Ncikazi said SuperSport TV, "Not the best of starts."

"I'm sloppy, but I understand the processes since we're a team undergoing a shift. We can't avoid the need for leadership change. We're adjusting a couple things, but we're still having trouble scoring goals." We could have scored more goals as a team that conceded so early in the game and then came back to score three goals. I'm just grateful for the team's effort, battling spirit, and teamwork. Despite the fact that the game was not visually appealing. However, it is still early in the season. This is the fourth game. You don't anticipate the team's evolution to be that rapid. But I can't condemn the team's effort, even if the performance wasn't particularly impressive.

"We were aware of Gavin's setup. We were expecting him to play on the counter. With the formation of playing Mahlambi and Sekotlong, the fast players, he was positioning them wide between our centre-backs and fullbacks in order to go on the break. I believe we just failed to employ a simple defensive strategy. We had been working on a rest defense for our squad for quite some time, but we were stuck in the same spot. In that sense, we can improve. But when it came to fighting back, we didn't give up; we continued pushing. I'm just relieved that we've made progress and that we now have a better understanding of our shortcomings.

"Our number sixes and number eights play a crucial role, especially when facing a side that prefers to play on the counter. If we counter-press and the team builds from the back, one of them must jump and join the attack. They're quite good at it. They're also quite well-suited to one other. Mosele, who recently transferred from another team, is on his way. I simply want us to get a little better at possession. Pirates imposing their game a little. I don't think we did a good job on that today. It's still in the works."
