Holstein Kiel were incredible as they scored three goals against the hosts as they kept a clean sheet in the match. Holstein Kiel's win got them to the semi-finals in the competition as they made progress to the next stage. Holstein Kiel's Alexander Muhling, Janni Serra and Joshua Mees scored the winning goals in the match. The home side Essen had a total of 16 attempts at goal and 6 shots on target, but unfortunately could not score any goals.
Holstein Kiel opened the scoring in the 26th minute of the match when Alexander Muhling scored from the penalty spot to lead at 1-0. Holstein Kiel extended their lead two minutes later when Janni Serra scored in the 28th minute of the match to lead at 2-0. Joshua Mees scored late in the 90th minute of the match as Holstein Kiel won the match 3-0 in the end as they progress to the semi-finals in the DFB-Pokal.
