Opinion: Ronaldo's Actions After Man United Loss, Is One Reason Why He Should Be Made Captain

The Premier League returned with some fantastic football matches, and so did VAR and its contentious decisions, both of which were a welcome sight.

One of the games played yesterday saw Aston Villa surprise with a one nil victory over Manchester United.

Since Cristiano Ronaldo's return to the club, however, something doesn't seem to add up, as evidenced by some ridiculous decisions and erratic performances on the part of his teammates.

Ronaldo had asked Bruno Fernandez to allow him to play the penalty in the last minute of the game, much to the surprise of many, but he refused, an action that later backfired when he hit the crossbar with the ball after it had been deflected off his foot. And, in the manner of the model leader that he is, the Portuguese captain was the first to console him and was also the first to use his social media platforms to motivate his teammates and fans. Many fans believe that actions like these are the reason why the club's manager should promote him to the position of captain.

Ronaldo is widely regarded as a great leader and one of the greatest players in football history; his leadership abilities with Portugal's national team can attest to this fact, as he has guided them to two major European finals, both of which they have won. Despite the fact that he is not the team's captain, he is said to motivate them even more than Maguire, and reports suggest that a great deal has changed in the dressing room since he joined the club.

Aston Villa earned their first Premier League victory over Manchester United in their last 18 meetings, defeating the Red Devils 1-0. The last time they beat the Red Devils 1-0 at Old Trafford was in December 2009, and this is their first victory over the Red Devils in 45 games, with 11 draws and 33 losses in that time.
