In regards to their transfer efforts, Kaizer Chiefs have been making all the right noises this week. On Thursday, the club announced that they had signed Edmilson Dove via a free transfer under the Bosman ruling.
While Dove's addition has strengthened the team's left side of defense, it appears that another highly regarded player has moved for greener pastures.
This afternoon, Chiefs announced the immediate termination of left back Sibusiso Mabiliso's contract.
The club announced the mutual termination of the contract in a short statement sent through their official Twitter account.
"Sbusiso Mabiliso, a defender for Kaizer Chiefs, and the team amicably ended his contract. We appreciate Sbu's help and hope for his continued success "That's official, the chiefs say.
The 23-year-abrupt old's exit from the Naturena-based club, from which he joined a year ago from AmaZulu, is unusual, if not outright stunning.
The fact that he only participated in six games may have been a contributing factor in the club's decision to cut their losses and release him.
After the team's pursuit of Dove, a utility player who can play central defense and his natural left-back position, rumors began to circulate that the club was considering such a move.
Many Chiefs supporters are disappointed with the team's choice, claiming that Mabiliso was not given enough chances to prove his true qualities and that the team would have been better off without the services of Sifiso Hlanti, an older player whose time with the team has been plagued by injuries.
Therefore, one can speculate that the Chiefs' upper management spotted some flaw in Mabiliso that led them to this conclusion.
They may have considered him as unreliable despite the fact that injuries reduced his playing time previous season.
Mabiliso's football career is far from over, and despite the cliche, he should have no trouble finding a suitor in the DStv Premiership.
How do you feel about Mabiliso being released by the Chiefs?
