Kaizer Chiefs had a tough DStv Premiership encounter against the struggling Marumo Gallants on Sunday afternoon at Peter Mokaba Stadium. Another frustrating game for Chiefs as they failed to break Gallants' deadlock and the match ended on 0-0, which meant the teams shared the spoils. After five games, Amakhosi lurking around the relegation zone, as they have five points. Chiefs haven’t won a match in their last three league clashes and that’s a massive worry for Stuart Baxter as that will have to change if they want to win silverware this season.
What was unfortunate for Baxter was that he was missing some key players that were going to give him something different on the pitch. Having a lot of talented players to choose from will always be any coach's dream, however, Baxter has had his pool of players being messed with thanks to injuries. The Englishman cannot help but wonder if these certain players were available for selection what was going to be the scoreline. Chiefs were missing the likes of Leonardo Castro, Siyabonga Ngezana, and Dumisani Zuma who have had long-term injuries. This list has gotten a bit longer as more Chiefs players have been added to it namely, Samir Nurkovic, Phathutshedzo Nange, and Kgaogelo Sekgota.
In the match against Royal AM whereby they lost by 4-1, Chiefs had to do a forced substitution following Nange injury to his adductor inner thigh during the first half. According to the club’s website, Nange is expected to be out of action for the next fortnight. Meanwhile, Sekgota also got injured in the same game, after a horrible challenge from Royal AM’s captain Samuel Manganyi as he knocked his ankle and required stitches thereafter. However, the Chiefs' medical team will have to study his situation and do a lot of tests to figure out the severity of the injury. Then after that, they’ll do further assessments in terms of his road to recovery.
