Playing football in the Premier Soccer League of South Africa has always been challenging, not just for players alone but even the coaches are interrupted from their jobs. The fans are always questioning your team selection and demanding so much from every player wearing their respective colours.
There is no way to silence the fans and they always there to judge and express their feelings about how they feel about your performance. You score one goal and you are a hero, you miss the next chance you are a cow. They quickly forget about your previous inputs, they don't care whether you preformed better last week and had one bad game this week. They will be all over you.
This behaviour has previously built new names such as Cow+tsande where they are literally calling that particular player a cow. On this instance the former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande would be called Cowtsande (cow +his name). The same fans that gave him the name 'Salt n Viniger'.
For some players it has been a blessing that they are playing without fans in the stadium due to the disrespect they get.
Today I'm looking at the players were not bad but just unlucky at the bigger teams (PSL) or just were not liked by the fans. Their records and CVs are impressive.
Some were called cows in South Africa only to gain European calls earlier than those praised and preferred over them.
Here is the Top 10 impressive CV holders but regarded as Cows in The PSL.
10. Valery Nahayo
Nahayo was called 'ibhasi yaseBurundi' by some commentators, he is one of the tallest defenders any coach would dream for. Nahayo signed for Chiefs from Burundi and played just one season where he won the League under coach Baxter. He was not the fans favourite but recieved a call from Belgium giants Fc Gent.
The supporters would blame him for every mistake at the back, regarded as the weakest link and called a cow too. His CV is amazing in a way that at the age of 38 he is still playing in Belgium third division.
9. Ayanda Gcaba
Gcaba played for both Bafana Bafana and the Buccaneers. He is also tall and was unfortunate not to be liked by the fans. He played for the Orlando Pirates club in the CAF Champions league where they lost their second leg match of the Final away from home. A team that lost to Al ahly sc in the final, Gcaba was a key player.
No matter what was his last form, Gcaba was always considered as weak guy. He was never trusted by the fans, many believed that he should have continued with Rugby.
The painful part is that- regardless of whether the goals where scored from his position but he would be blamed for the loss.
8. Bernard Parker
Parker is still playing and each and every game the fans will be praying against his chances of being selected. He was a very big player for Kaizer Chiefs when he signed from his Europe return. Parker's form has been disappointing for the past seasons and he is currently regarded as a cow. The fans have forgotten all his hardwork and input. They would celebrate his retirement announcement any day.
Bacela was a big player before joining the Buccaneers. Khoza signed hom from the Bloem Celtics. The fans expected him to do the same magic as he was doing at free state, a goal scoring machine turned into a cow within a very short period of time. The fans were not impressed and they wanted results without being patient. He was praised up until he started missing important penalties, very crucially penalties... the fans started to sing a different song.
Vries is a good goalkeeper was given a chance by Chiefs when Itumeleng Khune was out with injuries. Vries impressed for few games but it ended in tears as the fans wanted him out. The club released him as the fans lost hope, they believed he was too weak and not ready to be their goalkeeper.
5. Aaron Mbazo Mokoena
It was always painful for Mbaaaazo Mokoena, playing for respected football clubs in Europe only to be called a cow in your country. He is the player with the most impressive CV but unfortunately he was never respected in South Africa. The fans went on to blame him for the FIFA world cup 2010 disaster.
Mokeona Captained the national team Bafana Bafana for a long time but his captaincy was challenged every single day by the fans as they were always on his back calling him a cow.
Mokeona is one of the few players in this country to play in the English Premiership.
3.Bongani 'Drogba' Ndulula
2.Ndumiso 'madala' Mabena
1.Sphelele 'SHAKA ZULU' Mthembu
