Pirates coach talks about what has changed in their approach and which player should start games

Orlando Pirates showed a rare side of themselves in the DStv Premiership this past weekend against Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. What was surprising is that Pirates dominated the Chilli Boys as they thrashed them by 3-1. This kind of performance has resulted in a lot of excitement from their fans as they’re seeing a hungrier side which is what’s needed. Now, the Buccaneers co-coach Mandla Ncikazi has shared some light on their incredible performance this past weekend. As he stated that it was everything that they practiced in training and it was good seeing it coming to life. “The match was a mirror of our training,” said Ncikazi talking to the media.

What’s amazing is that Pirates have had a better start in 2021/22, as they’re currently unbeaten in four games and collected eight points. Ncikazi felt that his side has shown immense team spirit, which resulted in their win against the Gqeberha-based outfits. What stood out for Ncikazi is the work rate of the players who were able to work as a collective to clinch the maximum points and move to the next DStv Premiership tough encounter against Mamelodi Sundowns. “We did prophecies this result if this team is this united and is prepared to work this hard. With everything that happened yesterday where the unity is always vivid within the team, you work for your luck, and today I think luck was on your side because the team worked for it,” said Ncikazi talking to the media.

Furthermore, it seems like the former Golden Arrows head coach has figured it out in terms of his ideal target man up front who can bang in the goals. As he felt that Tshegofatso Mabasa should start against Sundowns, as he’s regarded as a goal poacher. Also, he has scored in the last two games for the Buccaneers and that’s just outstanding. Also, Ncikazi wants Pirates to have a consistent line-up and not chop and change their personnel. All in hope that injuries won’t rob their run in the league. “The teams who win and win championships, they all have consistent line-ups. If it’s possible and there are no injuries, we would love to keep the same team. Without jumping the gun, I think Tshegofatso Mabasa should start in the next match,” said Ncikazi talking to the media.
