Chiefs make decision on GK contract situation

The future of first-team goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has been decided by Kaizer Chiefs, with the Nigerian's contract with the club set to expire at the end of the current season.

According to a source close to the club, the Phefeni Glamour Boys are poised to offer the Nigerian international a new two-year contract.

"Daniel Akpeyi's contract with Kaizer Chiefs expires in June," says the source.

"With a new two-year contract, the club wants to keep him."

"The chiefs have a lot of faith in Akpeyi." In terms of their dedication to extending the player's tenure at the club, both parties are on the same page.

"At Akpeyi's age, he might as well retire with the Chiefs."

Itumeleng Khune, Bruce Bvuma, and Brandon Petersen, along with Akpeyi, are among the four first-team goalkeepers vying for a starting spot for Kaizer Chiefs.

Pretoria Callies has become a refuge for nine players formerly of Chiefs headlined by veteran forward Collins Mbesuma.
