PSL Update: Parker Challenges The Critics

Parker Challenges The Critics

Former Bafana Bafana international Parker who has played soccer in Europe, has urged critics to evaluate older South African players on their abilities rather than their age.

Parker told Galaxy's media department at the practice grounds in Johannesburg I think we are quick to judge with age but I think it's only fair if you can be judged on your performance rather than your age.

In Europe, players are evaluated based on their performance and what they contribute to the team and to football. Additionally young players are motivated by and well-guided by veteran players which is why you can find older players in the great teams all around Europe are essential and have great influence.

Bernard Parker a former captain of the Kaizer Chiefs, has urged detractors to evaluate seasoned South African sportsmen on their ability rather than their age.

Parker just signed a two-year contract with TS Galaxy, claiming that the club's owner Tim Sukazi was astonished that the veteran attacker remained without a club given that he is valued and a fantastic player.

The 36-year-old left the Chiefs where he spent 11 years and joined the Rockets. When his contract with the Soweto giants expired in June they decided not to extend it because Arthur Zwane is rebuilding the team with more younger players.

I'm talking about players who are 35 or older, like Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovi I can think of many more, including Sergio Ramos and Gianluigi Buffon. All these greats they appreciate and embrace their greatness as evidenced by the fact that they helped them win the league after 20 years, and Thiago Silva joined Chelsea, and he was a key factor in the club winning the Champions League," Parker continued.

The seasoned player continued by saying that older players may play a significant part in integrating young people into the professional environment in order to foster their growth and maturation.

I think we just rush to throw in young talent, he said. They play without any guidance and the next thing they don't grow and three years later they disappear and it is not their fault.
