South Africa's representative in the CAF Confederations Cup, Marumo Gallants won 3-2 against AS Vita Club on aggregate in the second round of the preliminaries, as they now advance to the next phase of the competition which is the playoffs round. Orlando Pirates who is the other South African representative in the tournament needs to impress as well in their second-leg fixture against Diables Noirs as they are still level on a 0-0 aggregate score.
Marumo Gallants has made a success of their maiden season in Africa's CAF Confederations Cup, as they won both preliminary rounds in the tournament, as they now advanced to the playoffs phase in the tournament with hopes of making it further in the prestigious African competition. Marumo Gallants in the second round of the preliminaries, won their first-leg 2-1 against AS Vita Club at home, and drew their second-leg fixture 1-1 away from home for a 3-2 aggregate win against the odds.
Marumo Gallants was in big trouble when AS Vita Club opened the scoring in the second-leg fixture in the 22nd minute when Jacques Mangoba scored for Vita to lead the match at 1-0 and 2-2 on aggregate, which meant that Marumo Gallants was in trouble and had to score as AS Vita had the upper hand because of their away goal they scored in the first-leg. Marumo Gallants made a brave and remarkable comeback when they scored very late in the 90+2 minute when Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo scored for a 1-1 level score and with Marumo Gallants back in the aggregate lead on 3-2.
Marumo Gallants won the fixture 3-2 on aggregate at full-time, and advanced to the playoffs phase in the tournament. Orlando Pirates will be playing against Diables Noirs at home on Sunday, and will have to win against the visitors to advance in the CAF Confederations Cup to secure their spot as the other South African club in the African tournament. Orlando Pirates and Diables Noirs drew their first-leg fixture 0-0 and has work to do as they are not safe.
Orlando Pirates will have to work really hard considering their last four fixtures ended in three disappointing draws with one defeat against Mamelodi Sundowns. Orlando Pirates will have to play a different style against Diables Noirs in the second-leg to finally be on the winning path again if they want to advance in the CAF Confederations Cup and join Marumo Gallants in the playoffs.
