After winning the Nedbank Cup, Limpopo based DStv Premiership side Marumo Gallants FC formerly known as Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila automatically become South Africa's representative in the CAF Confederations Cup, they are expected to start playing their preliminary rounds this coming weekend and it does not look like they will be having a good start, their travelling logistics seem to have had some challenges.
Reports emerging suggests that Gallants have travelled Equatorial Guinea with a squad of just 12 players of which among the 12, there is no goalkeeper, the only goalkeeper who is expected to join the team in Equatorial Guinea is Zimbabwean international Washington Arubi who was on national duty with his country.
According to FAR Post, as it stands, there is a possibility that Arubi might not be able to the rest of the team since it is reported that the club did not apply his VISA on time, meaning if the last minute arrangement hits a snug, he will not join the team and that means Marumo will play their first game without a goalkeeper, they will have to field a player who has some basic goalkeeping skills.
"South Africa’s CAF Confederation Cup representatives Marumo Gallants landed in Equatorial Guinea on Wednesday with only 12 on-field players for their match against Futuro Kings on Saturday. Goalkeeper Washington Arubi (the only keeper traveling) is expected to join the rest of the squad in Malabo today to take the number to 13 players in the camp. He was on national duty with the Zimbabwe national team in Ethiopia. But his chances of joining his teammates also remain in doubt as the club has failed to apply for his visa on time. Meaning as it stands, Gallants will play their match at Estadio de Mongomo without a goalkeeper,'' the publication reports.
Covid-19 could be one of the reasons why the Limpopo based outfit is going through the current crisis, there were reports that some of their players failed the Covid-19 tests.
