Wasteful Pirates lose at CAF Confed final

This is a match that Orlando Pirates could have won but due to the fact that they were wasteful in all of the chances they created, the game was further pushed to the extra time and then to the penalties. The Buccaneers appeared to be as a stronger side when compared between the two teams, and when watching the game from the stands one would have expected them to score one or two goals during an open match, and the extra time and the penalties is something that was clearly far from mind.

The second half remained to be quiet as either sides were really showing signs of willingness to score, the 90 minutes ended with a 0-0 scoreline and the game was pushed to extra time. Orlando Pirates made a double change at the beginning of extra time as we saw Thabang Monare and Siphesihle Ndlov replaced Ben Motshwari and Bandile Shandu, it's not clear what could have influenced the coaches with these kind of substitutions.

RS Berkane were fortunate to have been awarded a penalty in the fourth minute of extra time after the referee was assisted by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) as Thabang Monare fouled Ismail Makadem in the box, El Fahli took the shot and scored the first goal of the match as they made it 1-0. The Buccaneers were hyped up from this conceded goals, in the late minutes of extra time and they managed to score an equaliser through the charismatic Thembinkosi Lorch in the last three minutes and the keeper couldn't catch the ball as he as distracted.

This match was forced to be played on penalties in which Thembinkosi Lorch turned from being a hero to a vilan as his penalty intake got stopped by the opposing keeper, it was clear from his facial expression that he was scared and his body language didn't show as someone who was confident to score, the match ended with a 5-4 victory on penalties to RS Berkane.
