Pirates assessing Nigerian talent

Nigerian defender Olisa Ndah has joined Orlando Pirates on trial ahead of a possible permanent move to the Soweto giants.

Ndah is largely considered to be one of the best defenders in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), having helped Akwa United win their first league title in the 2020/21 season.

On his path to Akwa United's league triumph and qualification for the CAF Champions League, the 23-year-old put in some impressive performances.

Despite this, the Super Eagles international has relocated to the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL).

Ndah is believed to have arrived in the nation earlier this month to begin his trial time with the Buccaneers, although it is unclear whether he has done enough to secure a contract.

However, Akwa Ibom coach Kennedy Boboye says he's already preparing for life without one of his side's most precious assets, who has been projected for a bright future with the senior Nigerian team.

"We're already thinking about the Champions League, and we might accomplish it without him [Ndah]," Boboye said this week to Global Sports.

"I normally don't want to see any of my players return to the league when they leave for a deal abroad."
