Shabalala To Fight For Kaizer Chiefs Chance

Mduduzi Shabalala, a rising star for Kaizer Chiefs, is preparing to compete for a place in the first squad after being selected to represent the country at the DStv Compact Cup.

DStv Disk Challenge players Shabalala and Sabelo Radebe have been selected to represent Chiefs in the newly-formed DStv Compact Cup, which will take place later this month in Cape Town and Johannesburg.

Recent performances by the kid have been impressive in the Amakhosi's reserve levels, with one of his goals coming against Royal AM. He has also appeared on the bench for the senior club against Sekhukhune United earlier this month, where he was substituted.

"I couldn't explain how thrilled I was to have been selected for the first team," Shabalala said on the club's website after being named to the squad.

"The opportunity will present itself, and I will be given the opportunity to play for the first team. My friends and family were ecstatic when they saw my name on the squad sheet for the first time."

He hopes to utilize that outing, as well as his performance against Royal AM, as inspiration to put in a strong showing at the Compact Cup and establish himself as a contender for regular first-team participation.

In addition, the South African U-17 youth international expressed his delight at being awarded man of the match. "I am also delighted to have been selected for the DStv Compact Cup, which means that I simply have to step up my game," he said.

"This performance has undoubtedly given me more confidence in the lead-up to the DStv Compact Cup competition. Receiving votes demonstrates that I am putting on a solid football performance and that people enjoy seeing me play. I intend to continue to fight and do the right thing in the future."
