Mamelodi Sundowns is one of the richest clubs in South Africa and is run by the Motsepe family. Fans associate the club with glamor, style and wealth, however this sneak peak into this side of Chloorkop left fans surprised. George Maluleka shared a clip as he was trolling Lebogang Maboe for his new hairstyle while they arrived for training. Fans couldn't help but notice the state of the property and the parking lot where the players and staff park.
It is surprising to see millions rand cars parked in this kind of parking as there is no paving and is covered by soil all around. This unlike Mamelodi Sundowns as many would expect for them to have world class training facilities as compared to some of the biggest clubs in Africa. There were some ruins that could also be seen on the background, it looks like an incomplete building that is decaying and another man could also be seen carrying a bucket while scooting across the video.
Here's a link to the video below :
Many will agree that Mamelodi Sundowns is in par with the Soweto Giants, however their base can't be compared to Naturena Village and Park Town where you find Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates facilities. The Brazilians are still a relatively new team as compared to the team mentioned and they are in the process of building their facilities, however fans felt that a decent parking lot should've been a top priority given the amount of money they pay players and their known wealth.
Take a look at some of the comments below :
Fans rarely see this part of Chloorkop as the club and players usually show the training grounds and offices, however this video by George Maluleka let them in to behind the curtains at the Mamelodi Sundowns headquarters. A BMW X6 and a BMW i8 could be seen in the parking lot and fans felt that it didn't make sense to park such expensive cars in a dusty parking lot.
Patrice Motsepe did a good job as president in terms of elevating the club and turning it into a powerhouse. He also broke boundaries by purchasing property with the main goal of developing it to be the club's headquarters and training facility, this may take years to achieve as it still looks like a work in progress. He has since vacated his position putting his son in charge, however the chances returning when he tenure ends as CAF president are very high.
