Chiefs want their next PSL matches to be called off with immediate effect, here’s way

Kaizer Chiefs has stated that they have a major issue in their squad and they feel that they’re not ready to play their next matches. This might be something that clubs will have to look further into and even the Premier Soccer League too. As it seems like it’s beyond their control and there should be certain rules and regulations attached to it. As it seems like many clubs will face such issues moving forward in 2021/22.

According to reports, Chiefs have appealed with regards to their fixtures this December, as they feel that they don’t have enough squad to compete in the DStv Premiership. Following an outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic at Naturena, which increased the cases within the Soweto giants. It is believed that Amakhosi has approximately 31 players that have tested positive for the virus. This has led to the temporal closure of the Club’s headquarters Naturena until this week. As they’re trying to clean the place to make sure that no one gets COVID-19 anymore. At the moment, everyone with the virus is on self-isolation. “The club has written to the Premier Soccer League to request for a postponement of the four upcoming games in December against Cape Town City (4 December), Golden Arrows (8 December), Sekhukhune FC (12 December) and Royal AM (22 December) to avoid the risk of infection and further spread of the virus and allow those affected to recover and complete their quarantine period before they can play against teams,” read the Chiefs' official statement.

Amakhosi have stated that even their coaching staff have been affected by the outbreak and they don’t have enough players that they field on their next fixtures. As Chiefs is expected to play against Cape Town City FC this weekend, amongst other teams and they’re hoping that the PSL will accept their appeal. “We view this as a case of force majeure as what the club is experiencing as a consequence of COVID and the protocols it is obliged to implement, is totally beyond the control of the Club. The Club does not at the moment have sufficient players nor technical team to constitute a team,” read the Chiefs' official statement.
