Guinean players were kicked out of the tournament a few days ago after reaching round 16. Guinean players competed against Gambian players, who defeated them by a goal to zero.
After the Guinea football team returned home, Guinea's president, Mamady Doumbouya, held a meeting with them. He applauded the team's performance and informed them he had forgiven them for not winning the competition when he saw them.
He also reminded them that he understands how difficult it will be to win the trophy, but that it will take time because the team is still being rebuilt.
Surprisingly, Mamady Doumbouya advised the squad to either return to the event to win it or return the money given to them for the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and grand Finale as soon as possible.
The president claims that his main goal was to encourage them, knowing that developing a team takes time.
"Latest on Guinea President Mamady Doumbouya has forgiven the team. Says his ultimatum was just to encourage them. He understands team building takes time." journalist Saddik Adams tweeted on Wednesday.
Mr Doumbouya earlier stated that if the team fails to win the cup, the state will receive a refund. The Guinea elephants, on the other hand, were eliminated from the tournament on Monday.
The interim president is known to be a very strict mam and it seems like the Guinea plauers are about to know him well. Doumbouya served in missions in Afghanistan, Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Central African Republic and close protection in Israel, Cyprus, the UK and Guinea.
