Youthful Al Ahly held to a 1-1 draw in a cup encounter

Pitso Mosimane's Al Ahly were scheduled to play in a cup match despite the fact that the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is currently underway, and most of Al Ahly players are not with the diary team as they are representing their respective national teams, and Pitso Mosimane was forced to rely on the club's youngsters as they were scheduled to play against Ismaily. The youthful squad stood their ground against a much experienced team as they played to a 1-1 draw in the second round fixture of the League Cup group stage. Under normal circumstances youngsters are fearful to play in major tournaments but the Al Ahly youngsters must be commended for representing their team with such extent.

The 57 year old Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane did make an indication that he will use youngsters in the League cup match as he wants to prepare them for the future at club. Despite being an inexperienced youthful squad, Al Ahly still managed to come out with a 0-0 draw against El-Gouna in their first game of this very same tournament. When they faced off against Ismaily, Al Ahly youngsters were in a much better shape when compared to the El-Gouna game.

This was a match in which both teams wanted to win game as this was a fast pace match, with both teams looking for an early lead, and within 15 minutes the game saw its first goal. Ismaili's new signing Carmelo Algaranaz struck a header and made it 1-0.

After the half time break Ismaily appeared to have had more control over ball possession when compared to the reds who were later saved by Ahmed Adel's made a mistake as he conceded a penalty. Adel almost saved Hossam Haasan's penalty kick, fortunately for Al Ahly Ahmed Sayed Gharib managed to score the rebound ball and made it 1-1, as both teams finished the game with 1 point. Ismaily are currently holding the first-place spot in Group B with four points from two games, while Al Ahly are in third place with two points from two draws, on their next encounter, Al Ahly will need to at least fight for a win.
