Chiefs in Trouble as PSL Club Plots RAID for Baxter

Premier Soccer League side AmaZulu has reportedly made Kaizer Chiefs boss Stuart Baxter their No.1 target to become the club's permanent coach at the end of the current campaign.

The club confirmed this afternoon that they have decided to part ways with Benni McCarthy following the team crashing out in the group stages of the CAF champions league.

Usuthu has equally been limping in the Dstv premiership where they are currently in 9th place, which pales in comparison with their efforts last season where they moved from the relegation zone to finishing second.

Meanwhile, with Benni now out of the picture, the club is installed his technical team led by Vasili Manousakis to continue on an interim basis, possibly until the end of the season, which is by the way just 7 matches away.

Despite having an interim plan in place, the high echelons of management at the club, are said to have identified Chiefs coach Baxter as the right man to the club to their desired direction.

The 68-year old Englishman has not had the best of time at the Naturena-based club since his return towards the end of last season.

His future has been consistently the subject of speculation, with fans expressing their displeasure at his pragmatic tactics that have dismally failed to bring silverware to the club again.

There is a sense at Chiefs that assistant coach Arthur Zwane is finally ready to take the ropes and provide the verve the club desperately needed.

Soccer Laduma has reported that AmaZulu is looking to capitalize on the crisis that Baxter currently faces at the club.

While convincing Baxter to leave Chiefs would not be an easier nut to crack, particularly after the club released a statement in February showing their unwavering support for their coach, there is no reason in my mind to doubt that the allure of coaching a multimillionaire-owned Durban-based side would not be something he could seriously consider.

It remains to be seen what would happen at the end of the season, don't be surprised if Benni were to become the next Chiefs coach either, they are a club he grew up supporting that he would seriously appreciate the opportunity to coach.

Do you think it would be a sensible move for Baxter to leave Chiefs for AmaZulu at the end of the season?
