The 2021/2022 MTN 8 final between Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club and Cape Town City Football Club was an end-to-end game that had everything in it, from both clubs scoring each goal, missing clear chances, to missing more than two penalties in the penalty shootout. Sundowns finally won the match 3 - 2 on penalties after a 1 - 1 draw in normal time, but the game will mostly be remembered for the incident that happened after the match, which saw Cape Town City's Fagrie Lakay red-carded after he and Mpho Makola got into a disagreement with match officials.

The disagreement has landed the 35-year-old former Orlando Pirates Football Club middlefielder, Makola in trouble with Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Hearing(PSL DC).
Cape Town City boss John Commitis has confirmed that Makola has been suspended for two months, and will miss six games in the process.
