Rhulani Mokoena was throwing around a lot of hints on what makes Sundowns dominate a lot of teams in the league even though he tried not to give away much but if you are able to read between the lines. You can tell how they plan against their opponents.
The first half was a bit in patches. but the second half Sundowns was a bit "dominant". We want a team that's "dominates", we showed that especially in the second half. We try by all means to play a "perfect" game. We speak about it now and then in the dressing room.
I know it sounds too far fetched but the desire to have "perfection" must always be there said Rhulani.
Mokwena believes that they must always strive to achieve "perfection" because you can always drop to "excellence" if it happens that you don't achieve your goal of attaining perfection.
We want everything perfect. we strive for a "perfect" game, a perfect pass,we want everything perfect in our game. we want everything from pressing to be perfect. This is what we expect at Sundowns from our team he said.
Rhulani said they are quite happy with Kutumela's performance. they introduced him to the team because they expect him to score goals. he is working very and growing at Cloorkop.
-Sundowns Secret "Rest Defence"
According to Rhulani it is defending while in possession. He said a lot big teams around the world do it. Meaning you are always ready to defend when the opposition starts their movement. it shows in the game as whenever sundowns lose possession they are always in good possession to defend. They have also kept a clean sheets since the start if the season. Coetzee has also been crucial in their "Rest defence" strategy. He has won 3 man of the match while many teams were focus on Sundowns attack.
"Rest Defence"- is an attacking structure that ensures counter pressing immediately after losing the ball to starve off your opponents from being comfortable on the ball
Rhulani said they believe in their players they trust them they have lots of leaders in the club. Any of the senior players can wear an armband. At Sundowns they believe in "shared leadership". A situation were you have a leader in each department from the goalkeeper to the striker.
