Sundowns Puts Baxter's Defensive Toothless Chiefs To The Sword

The much anticipated DStv Premiership fictxture between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs has finally arrived and produced the sparks as expected, early goal for the defending Champions who came into the game with intentions clear, they never wanted to repeat the mistakes they committed in the same fixture a few weeks ago when they allowed Chiefs come back from two goals down.

Masandawana broke the deadlock in the early stages of the game on the 8th minute through former SuperSport United defender Grant Kekana who benefited from a corner kick, gave the home side a lead to frustrate and unsettle Amakhosi who started the game with five defenders.

Baxter started with five defenders and it was quite obvious that he gave Sundowns too much respect, he never wanted to concede and at the same time, he disadvantaged his side from creating scoring opportunities.

Amakhosi kept probing trying to get and equaliser before half-time, but it was not coming with very little chances created, they never had much opportunities that troubled Dennis Onyango and his defense.

The Phefeni Glamour Boys came into the second half more purposeful and they forces Sundowns into making some defensive errors, but still they could not take the chances, until the 60th minute when Onyango was called into action and saved from close range after a set piece, but Onyango managed to save Sifiso Hlanti's tap-in shot and kept the score at 1-0.

The silent assassin Peter Shalulile who is always at the right place at right time, he pounced on a cross by substitute Maema and gave the defending champions a 2-0 lead on the 63rd minute.

Lebohang Manyama struck the cross bar with Onyango well beaten from a penalty spot on the 78th after Rivaldo Coetzee handled the ball in the box, he could have reduced the deficit and hope to make yet another come back, but if is not your day, goals will never come no matter how hard you try.

Samir Nurkovic failed to convert and opportunity from a cross in the 83rd minute, his header flew well off target with Onyango at his mercy.

Njabulo Blom was lucky to finish the game after he intentionally kicked Safranko who did not have the ball on him, but he got away with just a booking.

Full time score: (Kekana 8’, Shalulile 63’) Mamelodi Sundowns 2 : 0 Kaizer Chiefs
