The Brazilians have seen their 'record' bid for Slovakia International striker Pavol Šafranko from Romanian Liga 1 side Sepsi OSK rejected.

Sundowns in the off-season bolstered their attacking options with the addition of Kermit Erasmus and Peter Shalulile but since Affonso has been missing while nursing an injury has now forced them to go abroad once again in order to reinforce.

The last year treble winners are rumoured to have submitted a R12.4 m (€700 000) bid for the 26 year old striker who has so far this campaign netted 6 goals and 3 assists in 15 league appearances.

Despite the fact that their offer activates his release clause, the club managed to convince their star player not to accept the offer from Sundowns so that he can help them to clinch the Romanian top-flight title.

Attila Hadnagy the club's general director holds that " I had an offer from South Africa for Pavol. Our boss managed to get through to him then they both decided to reject the offer."

"Right now the priority for the club is the play-offs. The player knows how important they are for us and that makes us happy, and we agreed with him that we will let him go in the summer."

If the move had gone in it was going to he the record breaking sale move for the club which was founded in 2011 but the player's former club AB Aalborg in Denmark was supposed to get 45% of the sale because of the clause they agreed on when he joined the club in August 2019.

The striker has 7 caps for Slovakia and he has enjoyed a fruitful stint in his home soul, Denmark and Scotland also before emerging as a leading star for the Romanian club.
