Chiefs Plot 'Surprise' Swoop For Highly-Rated Maestro

We are barely 6 matches into the 2021/22 DStv Premiership campaign, and talk pertaining to recruitment of new players is ordinarily not entertained at least until when the transfer window market reopens in January. But it seems Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs' early season struggles have made the club not to rest on their laurels regarding bolstering the squad.

According to an exclusive report by reputable media publication, The South African, Chiefs are plotting a surprise swoop for Bafana Bafana International and Sekhukhune United captain, Yusuf Maart in the upcoming January transfer window market.

The midfield maestro, widely regarded as one of the most promising South African youngsters when he broke into the scene five years ago at Chiefs' arch-rivals Orlando Pirates, but quite conspicuously, he was took some time to scale the heights that most people had expected he will.

However, since his fall out with Pirates following a myriad of seemingly inconsequential loan moves, he subsequently resurfaced at newly-promoted side Sekhukhune United when they still plied their trade in the GladAfrica Championship.

And boy did that move worked well for him, his performances for Sekhukhune as well as the Bafana Bafana in the World Cup qualifiers have not gone unnoticed.

The management hierarchy at the Glamour Boys seemed to have been watching closely at the 26-years old's development, which is why they are thought to be planning a January raid.

Maart, who is more comfortable playing as an attacking midfielder, has been likened to Manchester City midfield linchpin, Ilkay Gundogan for his ability to read the game and make passes at critical moments of the game.

He also possesses a strong physique which is remiscinicent of erstwhile Pirates midfielder, Thandani Ntshumayalo. It is such qualities that Chiefs are probably looking at in order to provide competition for Cole Alexander and Phathutshedzo Nange.

It remains unclear if Chiefs would be willing to break the bank for him. The Naturena-based club is notoriously-known for awaiting players' contracts to run out in order to pounce on Bosman deals (free transfers).

And since Maart still has two more years to run on his deal, they will need to negotiate a fee with Babina Noko to lure their target.

After watching him in action for Bafana Bafana against Ethiopia last night, Chiefs fans took to twitter to call on the club to consider sigining the star. Many were greatly impressed by how he controlled the game.

Do you think Maart has the requisite qualities to make it at Chiefs?
