OPINION: 4 Players that can help Tuchel to silence Ronaldo when Chelsea face Man U

ARTICLE SOURCE: MY OPINION

On Sunday evening, all eyes will be on Stamford Bridge as Chelsea hosts Manchester United in their 13th Premier League match of the season.

Chelsea are the clear favourites going into the game, having won nine of their past ten games in all competitions, while Manchester United will be the club with a point to prove after struggling to turn around their poor run in the Premier League.

Of course, the fact that the Red Devils won their last game in the Champions League against Villarreal helped, as they will go into the league match against Chelsea in high spirits.

While Chelsea's current form puts them in a good position to win the game, they do have an immediate obstacle in the form of Cristiano Ronaldo. Since joining the Red Devils from Juventus last summer, the Portuguese international has been a reliable performer.

This season, the 36-year-old has ten goals in 14 appearances for Manchester United, including five consecutive Champions League goals. Despite the fact that Ronaldo hasn't scored in United's last two Premier League games, he's still the man to watch when the Red Devils visit Chelsea.

We look at four players who could assist Thomas Tuchel in keeping Ronaldo quiet in front of Chelsea's home crowd.

1. Edouard Mendy

Edouard Mendy is at the top of the list. This season, the Senegalese shot-stopper has preserved 7 clean sheets in 11 Premier League outings for Chelsea. While Chelsea's Defenders will be tasked with stopping Manchester United's attacking threat, there may be times when one or two shots slip through their grasp, and it will be up to Edouard Mendy to decide whether those shots go in or out.

2. Antonio Rudiger

Antonio Rudiger has solidified his status in Thomas Tuchel's squad by becoming a powerful force in his back-three Defense set-up, after emerging as a periphery player under Frank Lampard.

Antonio Rudiger isn't your run-of-the-mill Defender. The German defender has been able to incorporate more physicality into his game. Last season, we saw it happen against Luis Suarez in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 and Kevin De Bruyne in the UCL final. Antonio Rudiger is an enforcer, and Chelsea fans will be hoping he's on top of his game against United to keep Cristiano Ronaldo quiet.

3. Andreas Christensen

The Danish defender is, without a doubt, Chelsea's fastest defender. He'd be the ideal player for Thomas Tuchel to assign to Ronaldo in their match.

4. Ruben Loftus-Cheek

This season, Chelsea's Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been outstanding as a box-to-box midfielder. He not only tackles and defends, but he also assists on goals. With Mateo Kovavic and N'Golo Kante ruled out of the United match, he is the next man up after Jorginho.
