Athletes And Performers In Ethopia Prepares To Join Troops At The FrontLine

Dancers and athletes dressed in traditional attire gathered in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, to perform and sing patriotic songs in preparation for a visit to soldiers serving on the front lines..

As Tigrayan rebels claimed this week to have taken control of another town around 220 kilometers from the capital, the event took place this past Saturday.

More than a year has passed since the government and the TPLF rebels began fighting one other.

Haile Gebrselassie, a former Olympian, has stated that he is ready to compete.

"The Ethiopian people (TPLF) have asked me to reassure them on numerous occasions that I am prepared to sacrifice and stand up for them. Although they claim to represent the Tigrayan people, this organization (TPLF) is destabilizing our country far beyond their home region ""I was a previous athlete and a businessman," explains the former athlete and entrepreneur.

State-owned media announced on Wednesday that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has traveled to the front lines of the war in Yemen.

Thousands of people have died and approximately two million people have been displaced as a result of the violence, which has lasted a year.

The Tigray region is also facing starvation, with more than 400 000 people living in the region.
