Sundowns Star Commits to Club for Another Year with New Contract
Despite having a roster full of exceptional stars, only the best of the best get consistent playing time for Mamelodi Sundowns, hence the club is notorious for sending their players out on loan.
Nicholus Lukhubeni, a veteran defender for Sundowns, is the latest player to sign a loan agreement with a PSL rival club instead of staying at Masandawana.
The 26-year-old defender has spent most of his career away from his Chloorkop hometown side, playing in loan spells. Maritzburg United of Pietermaritzburg, where Lukhubeni played for a season last year.
When his parent club Mamelodi Sundowns wanted him to get more playing time and experience, they loaned him out to other teams, such as Marumo Gallants and Sekhukhune United.
The defender will be reunited with Dylan Kerr, his coach from when he was on the staff of the Marumo Gallants in 2020–21, for the upcoming 2022–23 season.
The Sundowns have loaned Lukhubeni to the Soweto club Moroka Swallows FC. The 26-year-old is said to have agreed to a one-year loan deal with the Dube Birds.
His loan from Mamelodi Sundowns to Swallows will last a full calendar year. A source added, "He is still their player, and at the end of the loan period, they will decide what they want to do."
Swallows' next league match will be against Cape Town City FC on matchday 2 after they dropped their season opener by a score of 1-0 against Orlando Pirates.
For Sunday's match against Cape Town City FC, the club's new loan signing will be available to help Dylan Kerr's defense.
Cape Town City FC, who lost their first game 2-0 to Mamelodi Sundowns, will also be looking to bounce back in this one.
We hope that Nicholus Lukhubeni can now assist the Dube Birds in strengthening their defense.
