As confirmed by SAFA, Dr. Joe Phahla has appreciated the organization's proposal that fans return to stadiums where they had attended matches.
Dr Phaahla and SAFA president Dr Danny Jordaan met on Monday at SAFA to discuss reopening stadiums to fans.
SAFA's suggestion to allow fans back into stadiums was warmly received by the Minister of Health, Dr. Joe Phaahla, who urged the two parties to work quickly to settle the logistics.
The Ministry of Health and SAFA will hold a joint press conference on Friday, October 8, 2021 in Pretoria to provide further information.
A delegation from the Ministry of Health, led by Dr Phaahla, and the South African Football Association (SAFA), led by President Dr Danny Jordaan, met at SAFA House on Monday, October 4, 2021, where the Minister of Health stated that the return of fans to the stadium was a win-win situation in the bigger scheme of things.
The return of spectators to stadiums will speed up the vaccination campaign while also stimulating the informal economic sector of taxis that transport spectators to stadiums and those who sell their goods to spectators in the process.
Only vaccinated personnel will be permitted inside stadiums, according to SAFA, and all SAFA stakeholders must be up to date on their immunizations by 30 October 2021.
