During his playing days Marks Maponyane was known as a prolific striker, he is one of the few players who have had successfully careers with both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

Even to this day he still holds the record for being Kaizer Chiefs all time goal scorer.

He began his professional career with Kaizer Chiefs in 1981 where he went to enjoy a ten year stay. During his time at Naturena he went to net 85 goals, making him the team all time leading goal scorer. In 1987 he also had a successful spell with Portuguese side Vitoria Setubal in the off season.

After his spell with Chiefs he also went to feature for Dyamos FC, Orlando Pirates and Wits University. Even though as a renowned goal scoring machine he only went to feature for the national team 13 times and scoring two goals.

Today we celebrate a legend, Marks Maponyane was born on this day 59 years ago. Messages have been pouring in from the footballing fraternity and fans as he celebrate his special day. We would like to wish Marks a blessed day, may he continue enjoying a successful life after football.
