Young soccer player comes out as gay and football responds

17 year old Jake Daniels who plays for English club Blackpool became the first soccer player since 1990 in English football to come out as gay. The young lad scored 30 goals in the last year in the Blackpool youth teams and also recently signed his first professional contract.

He revealed how he has always known he was gay and how he was anxious about coming out in a profession where most people never come out but he said he was inspired by Australian soccer player Matt Cavallo and athletes from other sports like Matt Morton.

He revealed that he has received support from his family, his club, his agent and his teammates in the youth teams. He stated that he has hated living a lie and always trying to fit in. He wants to be a role model for others.

Jake received support from many in the football community including from teams like Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City who all shared messages of support. See how the football community reacted.
