Proposed Chiefs' youngster was sighted with this Pirates' star player.

It is one of the oldest rivalries in Africa, if not the world, between Orlando Pirates Football Club and Kaizer Chiefs Football Club. The clubs have competed against each other for more than three decades and are considered to be the best in the world. It has always been a spectacular match, as we can see with the current crop of players who have the mentality of players from earlier years and who will go to any length to ensure that they do not lose to their arch-rivals. Since the days of Jomo Sono, Marks Maponyane, and Kaizer Motaung senior, this fixture has always provided fireworks.

Thembinkosi Lorch, the Pirates' attacking midfielder, understands the grid and the fight that must be brought to this match in order to come out victorious. The 28-year-old has had a say in the outcome of the few derbies that he has participated in recently.

It's hard to remember all of them, but one that springs to mind is the 2019 Carling Cup match at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, where he tortured the Chiefs defense and contributed an assist and a goal in the Buccaneers' 2 - 1 triumph.

Despite their rivalry on the field of play, the Chiefs and Pirates players have been sighted together enjoying each other's company off the field, and some of them are currently teammates in the Durban-based Dstv Compact Cup tournament.

Lorch, who is representing the Warriors Football Club, was spotted with Chiefs youngster Mduduzi Shabalala, who is a fan of Lorch. The youngster, who goes by the handle @mduduzishabalala12, posted a picture of the two players together in the Warriors colors on his Instagram story.

It is my opinion that the Dstv Compact Cup provides young players with an opportunity to learn from and engage with some of the best players the Dstv Premiership has to offer, while also sharing the limelight with some of their favorite players.

As for Shabalala and Lorch, they will almost probably get the opportunity to play together in the final of the competition, which will take place next week at Moses Mabhida Stadium versus Coastal Football Club.
