The Swallows have hired a new head coach || nobody was expecting to see this legend

The Swallows have hired a new head coach.

Following the departure of Brandon Truter, Swallows FC has confirmed the appointment of Dylan Kerr as their new head coach.

After a 3-1 loss to Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday, Truter and his entire technical team were removed of their duties with immediate effect.

After announcing former Baroka and Marumo Gallants tactician Dylan Kerr as their new head coach, the Birds wasted little time in recruiting a successor.

Kerr last played for Gallants last season, when they were still known as Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, when he assisted the team in winning the Nedbank Cup in their first season as a top-flight club.

After 12 games, the English tactician will take over a Swallows side that is now in last place in the DStv Premiership.

Dylan Kerr (born 14 January 1967) is a former professional footballer from Malta who is now the manager of Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila in South Africa. He was a left-back who played as a defender.

Career as a player

Kerr joined Kidderminster Harriers on trial in September 2000, but his one-month contract was canceled owing to an alleged breach of club rules. In January 2001, he returned to Scotland and signed with Hamilton Academical.

Coaching as a profession

Kerr coached in the United States after retirement (specifically in Phoenix, Arizona). Between 2005 to 2009, he worked as the Football Development Officer for Argyll and Bute Council in Scotland. Kerr also worked with the FAs of England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, earning different UEFA badges in the process.

Kerr got a deal as an assistant manager with South African club Mpumalanga Black Aces[5] in September 2009, which lasted until June 2010. Kerr gained valuable coaching experience in Africa while working with Sammy Troughton during the next few years.

In 2011, Kerr joined Khataco, a VPL team based in Nha Trang, Vietnam, as Academy Director and Assistant Coach. He then stayed with the organization after it was sold to Hi Phng, supporting the head coach and overseeing the younger players' development. Kerr was named to the Vietnamese National Technical Team in 2012 for the Suzuki Cup and Asian Games, where he assisted the Technical bench and oversaw the fitness program. Kerr took over as head coach of Hi Phng in 2013, and in his first season, he led them to National Cup victory. Kerr left the club after deciding not to renew his contract at the end of the season.

Kerr joined Tanzanian powerhouse Simba in 2015 and helped the squad finish in the top three in the table. The following year, he was promoted as Chesterfield's under-18 academy coach. Following the departure of Zé Maria, Kerr was confirmed as Gor Mahia's head coach on July 5, 2017. Kerr resigned as Gor Mahia's manager on November 15, 2018.

He took over as manager of the Black Leopards in the South African Premier Division in November 2018.

In May of this year, he resigned.

He was named head coach of Baroka FC in January 2020, however he missed the team's first several matches owing to work permit concerns. In October 2020, Baroka FC decided to suspend Kerr after hinting of interference in his job.
