Ruthless Downs hit Arrows for six

Mamelodi Sundowns were in a frenzy after thrashing Golden Arrows 6-0 in the DStv Premiership, with Peter Shalulile scoring another hat-trick in the process.

Following a strong performance against Summerfield Dynamos, the Brazilians gave Gaston Sirino and Khuliso Mudau another chance to impress, while Arrows made only one change, with Siboniso Conco coming in for Siboniso Conco.

As the game progressed, Sundowns began to show signs of life and seized the lead in the 18th minute when Sirino attacked an open space on the near side of the area to side-foot Mosa Lebusa's cutback into an empty net.

It took the reigning champions only six minutes to double their lead when Peter Shalulile snuck into the penalty area and headed home Lyle Lakay's corner-kick from close range.

Shalulile's brace and 20th league goal of the season made him the first player to achieve that feat since Siyabonga Nomvethe in the 2011/12 season as the disjointed opening grew worse for Arrows. A third goal from an unmarked Shalulile completed a one-two with Themba Zwane for his brace and 20th league goal of the season.

Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango made no mistake with a diving save from a Knox Mutizwa free kick late in the first half as Abafana Besthende attempted to mount a comeback.
