Opinion: Julius Malema took a smart move because of the ANC, government negligence on regulations.

Thohoyandou - the Economic Freedom Fighters joined thousands of soccer fans who together hold a common demand that stadiums should be opened to allow fans presence, the Pickett partook outside the offices of the department of Sports, arts, and culture this morning.

Despite that, the party has been against the lockdown principles against mass gatherings, this was the biggest move against prolonged lockdown, this was the biggest movement attended by the South African Football Players Union.

Union leader explained how the scrapping of lockdown rules on the stadium capacity assist the local economy through street vendors, car guards, security guards, and other sorts of informal supply.

" We are here to pledge our support, we are behind the EFF and what they have done today, we want the stadiums to be opened ", the Union representative said.

Though Malema has been hauling against lockdown gathering restrictions and limitations, it didn't gather public support until the ruling party 'filled up' Peter Mokaba stadium, Polokwane during the party's 110th anniversary. The event agitated mostly football lovers whom the EFF presided over earlier on 20th January to demand that everyone must be allowed to attend gatherings despite ANC members.

For over 2 years, several stakeholders in the community have been in stagnation as a result of the restriction of mass gatherings particularly in stadiums hence the car guards, artists, and sports fans joined hands with the EFF for the unity of purpose.

While under the present lockdown gatherings are limited to 1000 people indoors and not more than 2000 people outside, the EFF handed down a memorandum of demand, with deadlines, demanding that such a rule should be scrapped or else the protest will continue.

“They are enjoying this thing of people watching on DStv because it means more money and more viewership for DStv. Those who do not have DStv can’t enjoy the beauty of football in SA ", Malema told masses of people outside Minister Nathi Mthethwa's office.

This enforces pressure on the highest decision-making body on Covid-19 related matters in the country, the National Corona Virus Command Council (NCCC) which should be consulted before implementation or amendment of any Covid-19 regulation.
