The number of international footballers making their way to South African shores keeps increasing as the local league grows in stature.
Buoyed by their dance in the CAF Confederations Cup, Soweto giants Orlando Pirates have set their sights on signing a striker from Ivory Coast.
Pirates coach Jozef Zinnbauer had previously spoken about the need for the team to add a prolific striker as his current troops have been doing blanks.
According to this week's edition of Soccer Laduma, Pirates are interested in landing the services of Ivorian Sede Junior Dion.
Dion has been earmarked for the 2020/21 season and Pirates are tipped to sign him in the next few weeks.
He caught the eye of Zinnbauer when Pirates played against Jwaneng Galaxy of Botswana in the Confederations Cup. He plies his trade for the Botswana outfit.
Dion has just one year left on his current contract and Pirates will be hoping to take advantage of it and capture his signature.
“The boy is talented and he was supposed to have gone overseas when he was still with ASEC Mimosas in Côte d’Ivoire, but ASEC wanted a lot of money for him from the European team. That’s how he ended up signing in Botswana after his contract with ASEC ended.
“The boy is still young and has a lot of qualities in him. He is turning 23 years old this year. Pirates is very interested in him,” the source added.
Pirates are already building a squad that will most likely challenge for the league title next season.
Adding key reinforcements is very crucial if they are to achieve their title aspirations.
