Here We Go| Zungu To Sundowns, Player Reveals Why He Choose The Brazilians Over Chiefs

According to reports, the potential return of Bongani Zungu to Mamelodi Sundowns is getting very close as the two parties continue to negotiate with one another.

The midfielder who was born in Duduza has been without a club ever since he left Amiens SC, a team that plays in the French Ligue 2 at the end of the previous season.

Since he became a free agent, Zungu has been rumored to be interested in playing for several Premier Soccer League clubs, including Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs.

However, it appears that any possibility of relocating to Naturena has been extinguished after coach Arthur Zwane stated that the Chiefs have never shown interest in Zungu.

Now, according to a source that is familiar with FarPost, Zungu is inching closer to putting pen to paper with Sundowns, and this is because his agent held talks with the co-coach of the team, Rhulani Mokwena.

Because Mokwena and Zungu's relationship goes beyond that of a footballer and player, it is possible that this will play a significant role in the former Bafana Bafana international securing his return to Sundowns.

However, in the event that Sundowns and Zungu come to an agreement regarding the terms of the transfer, the lanky midfielder is aware that it will not be simple for him to walk straight into the starting line-up.

And this is due to the fact that Sundowns currently have a number of high-quality central midfielders, including Andile Jali and Teboho Mokoena, amongst others.

"Rhulani [Mokwena] and his agent have discussed various aspects of his upcoming career," said the agent. According to the source, "Rulani knows the young man too well, they have a good relationship, and he'd be keen to work with him." Rulani also has a good relationship with the young man.

Bongani Zungu says he always feels at home with the Pretoria team. He will always return to them when he is given the opportunity to return to the DSTV Premiership.

However, the man believes that now is not the time for him to return to the league because his agent believes that the man has years to spend abroad and does not need to return soon.

Zungu also stated that during his conversation with Patrice Motsepe, he was told that his home is Mamelodi Sundowns and that he will always return to them whenever he feels it is time.

I met Sundowns president Patrice Mostepe [now CAF president] a few times while I was still playing for the club, and he himself stated that Sundowns will always be my home."

Zungu also stated

This clearly indicates that the man will always join Sundowns, and the chances of other teams acquiring him are always slim. When the man decides to return to South African football, the Chiefs will not be among the favorites.
