According to Xavi, the board of directors at Barcelona are now working to finalize the transfer of Kounde since the Catalan club is looking to strengthen its roster in preparation for the upcoming season.
This summer, Kounde's name has been brought up in connection with a possible transfer to both Barcelona and Chelsea.
This past week, Chelsea had a bid of £55 million accepted by Sevilla for Kounde, while the French defender verbally agreed to a five-year contract with the Blues. Both events took place earlier in this week.
However, Barcelona has been pressuring Kounde to hold off on joining Chelsea until they can secure his services, and the player has decided to put a hold on the transfer for the time being.
Xavi was reported by Fabrizio Romano as saying the following regarding Barcelona's pursuit of Kounde: "We are working to improve the squad, the board is working on it." Regarding Koundé, I am at a loss for words.
"If there is something that has to be announced, we will make the announcement. The citizens of Barcelona are extremely upbeat.
