With the calls mounting for Orlando Pirates hierarchy to appoint a head coach after the recent departure of Josef Zinnbauer, top coaches are heavily linked with the job, including the former Pirates striker Benni McCarthy. McCarthy is currently a coach at AmaZulu.
McCarthy, a former UEFA Champions League winner with FC Porto, spent two memorable seasons at the Buccaneers and this explains why the fans adored him so much. Many Bucs legends wants him to be Zinnbauer's successor.
McCarthy helped the Buccaneers to the league title during the 2011/12 season and finished as their Top Goalscorer.
Following the call for McCarthy to the Buccaneers, the top coach’s agent believes that McCarthy would be 'flattered' by the call from his former club, however, has reiterated his client’s commitment to AmaZulu.
“We all know Benni is ambitious, that’s why he has worked so hard on his coaching badges while he was in Scotland early last year,” said Lance Davids.
But, said Davids, he is fully committed to AmaZulu and has a contract with the club until June 2023.
"If there’s any approach, it needs to go through the proper process, which is the president of AmaZulu FC. Those are Benni’s employers,” added Davids.
