Rhulani Mokwena: Our chequebook is not closed yet

We bring you updates on the defending DStv Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mamelodi Sundowns target more new signings - Mokwena

Three players' arrivals have been announced by the Brazilians thus far, and the other two have been verified by their former teams.

Rhulani Mokwena, Mamelodi Sundowns' co-coach, claims that the Tshwane giants have not yet completed their transfer transaction.

The Brazilians have only revealed three players: midfielder Sipho Mbule, goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, and attacker Abubeker Nassir.

The signing of Chilean international Marcelo Allende and Moroccan defender Abdelmounaim Boutouil, whose moves to Chloorkop have been confirmed by their respective former teams, has not yet been announced.

In order to keep their grip on the Premier Soccer League and win the Caf Champions League, Mokwena believes they still need to sign additional players.

"I do not believe the matter is resolved, and the club will issue the required declaration. The only thing I can say is that the chequebook is still open, according to Mokwena in Phakaaathi.

The timing of Mokwena's comments coincides with rumours that Bongani Zungu will soon be returning to Sundowns.

After leaving Ligue 2 team Amiens SC, Zungu is a free agent and has publicly stated he is in contact with the Brazilians.

New signature in the league loss against TS Galaxy on Wednesday at Loftus Versfeld, Nassir made his Masandawana debut.

With 26 minutes left, the Ethiopian replaced Thabiso Kutumela as Sundowns looked to draw even.

According to Times Live, Mokwena remarked, "We just need to be patient with him, it takes a little bit of time."

"You get exactly what you see. He is not a challenging guy to try to profile because you are talking about a 22-year-old player who was the leading goal scorer in the Ethiopian League for two consecutive seasons.

He had to terminate the season early in Ethiopia last year with 14 or 15 goals, and with two or three games left to play, the eventual top scorer passed him.

"I believe he should have won the top goalscorer award, but it can be challenging to profile young players due to the challenges of maximising their potential."

Another newcomer Williams started the last two games, moving Denis Onyango to the bench, while Mbule joined him from the bench for a second straight game.
