When Kaizer Chiefs went all out to acquire as many as 9 top quality players during the July/August transfer window, there was a sense in which some of the players already in the squad would face limited opportunities to play.
One such player is midfield maestro Kearyn Baccus who has not made a single appearance this season.
His constrained game time has been mainly caused by the domineering combination of new recruits Cole Alexander and Phathutshedzo Nange, who have seemingly hit the ground running.
Baccus, who arrived at Chiefs from Austrian club Melbourne City in 2019, is in the last year of his initial 3-year contract with Chiefs, and with no signs from the club's management hierarchy regarding a potential extension, speculation is already swirling that he might be heading for the exit door when time permits.
According to an exclusive report by Soccer Laduma, the representatives of the 30-years old Durban-born maestro are said to be assessing his future prospects at the Naturena-based side, and they might be planning to open talks with potential suitors possibly by January, as he will be allowed to sign a pre-contract with whoever wants to take him on a Bosman Deal at the end of the season.
It is an undeniably indisputable fact that his great displays whenever he has been called upon to play have endeared him to the Amakhosi faithful, and it would come as a great shock for them, that the club might consider to dispense with his services.
In a stark contrast to his diminishing influence under head coach Stuart Baxter, Baccus made 16 appearances last season under the stewardship of former coach Gavin Hunt.
If he becomes available, he will certainly not be shirt of potential suitors, as he possesses qualities that not many players in the DStv Premiership have.
An inference can be made that Baxter is incredibly making a huge mistake shunning Baccus, his use of James Akumu instead of the former has been hugely criticised by the fans, and perhaps as the season progresses, sanity will prevail.
Do you think Chiefs should consider extending Baccus' contract or they must cash in on him in the January transfer window if offers come in?
