Premier League

Finally: PSL have released a media statement

Each and every year, the premier soccer league in South Africa hosts awards to appreciate their players for the hard work they put in throughout the season. Awards are categorised into different categories, and players are awarded as per their work under the categories selected. Due to the ongoing pandemic and lockdown.

This year, PSL awards have been hosted later than the expected date due to the extended dates for the league due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The awards were successfully hosted virtually on June 6, 2021, whereby Mamelodi Sundowns player Peter Shaulile walked away with the Players of the Season award.

Because of the feud and fights between Royal AM and Sekhukhune FC for the Glad Premiership title,The PSL excluded the Glad Premiership title for the goal scorer of the season and the title handover due to the unsolved matter between the PSL and the above two teams. Royal AM, which is managed by Shawn Mkhize, was fighting for spot number one after PSL successfully awarded Sekhukhune FC three points for an unresolved case which happened earlier this year.

Due to court matters, the PSL awards were left with no choice but to exclude the Glad Premiership awards and the Refree awards nominations. However, PSL promised that they would host the remaining spots later this year.

Finally, PSL released a media statement this evening, October 4th, 2021, that they will host the remaining awards ceremony which was left out on the 6th of June 2021. The awards will be held at 19:00 pm at Randburg in Johannesburg. The awards will be broadcasted on National Television on DSTV Channel 202.

Tune in on Wednesday to watch your favourite footballers and referees get awarded.
