WEEKEND REVIEW : The Big Results & The League Table

The 2021/22 DStv Premiership round 5 saw another turn in shape in the league table, being affected by the results that occurred during the weekend.

Some teams got much needed wins while others failed to get back to winning ways in efforts to be aligned with their ambitions for this season.

Here are some of the influential results for this weekend :

Orlando Pirates 0  Mamelodi Sundowns 2

The Brazilians marched on with their mission to defend their league title after defeating the Buccaneers 2-0 in their own backyard. Sundowns Striker Peter Shalulile continued with his undying form, bagging a brace for his club to see out the result in their favour.

The Brazilians now continue to occupy first spot with 13 points while the Buccaneers dropped to 5th place with 8 points. They are well on course in showing their intentions for this season.

AmaZulu 1  Baroka 0

It was surely a great weekend for Benni McCarthy and AmaZulu as a whole, as they got the monkey off their back and clinched their first league win of the campaign after seeing off a 1-0 first half penalty goal from Bongi Ntuli.

The panic buttons will surely be far from reach for McCarthy who has managed to turn around the situation at his club, putting an end to their poor start to the season.

Royal AM 4  TS Galaxy 2

The team who are described as the "Cheese Boys" of the league continued were they left off last week, going on to score another impressive four goals against TS Galaxy who remain winless this season and have dropped to the bottom of the table.

Goals from Letsoalo, Mahlasela, Mashiana and Monamodi were enough to see the Royal boys March to another impressive victory on their debut season. Sanoka and Macupu got the two goals for Galaxy.

Marumo Gallants 0  Kaizer Chiefs 0

All eyes were on this one for the Chiefs fans as they wanted to see how their team would respond after being beaten 4-1 in their last outing. Chiefs however failed to put smiles back on the faces of their supporters as they played out to a goalless draw against Gallants who were at the bottom of the table when the two sides met.

Supersport United 2  Maritzburg United 1

Goals from Gabuza and Ditlhokwe late in the game saw Matsatsantsa claim all three points against a stubborn Maritzburg United side being led by Ernst Middendorp. This now puts Matsatsantsa as the team giving Sundowns a chase early into the new season, continuing to occupy second spot in the league table.
