Covid-19 Lockout: Chiefs, City Clash Called Off. SeeThis.

The DStv Premiership match between Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City was called off in farcical circumstances after the home team failed to appear at the venue and the Cape Town side was locked out of FNB Stadium.

In honoring the game by arriving 90 minutes before kick-off, the Citizens verified that they had fulfilled all of the appropriate matchday procedures.

Despite this, Kaizer Chiefs were a no-show, with the stadium doors being sensationally closed and the away team being denied access.

According to a statement sent on the CT City official Twitter account, "Cape Town City FC was present at FNB Stadium for the start of the match at 18:00, having followed all matchday regulations."

"Unfortunately, the Chiefs did not appear, and the game was called off at 18:15 by the match authorities in accordance with the rules of the game, which were followed. It's been a bad day for football."

Amakhosi made two public remarks, the first of which was a plea to the Premier League to postpone their December fixtures. While simultaneously announcing that it would be unable to host Saturday's match due to a wave of positive Covid-19 cases, the club also stated that it would not be able to host the match.

After a minimum of 31 club personnel and staff tested positive for Covid-19, the club was compelled to close its Naturena training site, which resulted in the shutdown of the facility.

Speaking prior of the scheduled kick-off, CT City media officer Julian Bailey verified that the club had adhered to all of the essential rules and regulations.

"According to the league's rules, only the PSL has the authority to postpone a game," Bailey explained to Newzroom Afrika. It is not possible for Kaizer Chiefs to announce that a match has been postponed. Consequently, we must adhere to process, which is why we traveled to Johannesburg the day before today.

"And it is for this reason that we have arrived at the stadium on time, 90 minutes before the scheduled start time.

"In our meeting with the match commissioner, he outlined the procedure to us; for us, it's all about obeying the rules and regulations.

"As explained by the match commissioner, we must remain here until at least 15 minutes beyond the scheduled kickoff time, which means we will be here after 18:15 if the game goes through as scheduled. We've brought the entire staff with us.

"We've turned in all of the paperwork that needs to be submitted to match commissioners and the league prior to any matches. We have not skipped any steps in this process.

"The remainder is in the hands of the match commissioner and the match authorities, who will submit all documents stating that they have been here and that we have been here, but that the gates have been barred from entering. The remainder is entirely in the hands of the authorities."
