The Orlando Pirates have announced the appointment of Spain coach Jose Riveiro as the club's new head coach for the 2022-2023 season.bThe 46-year-old has joined the Buccaneers alongside his assistant Sergio Almenara and will also join Mandla Ntsikazi.

Riveiro was the former youth coach of Celta Vigo before managing clubs such as FC Honka, PK-35 Vantaa, HJK Helsinki and most recently FC Inter, all clubs operating in Finland.

Riveiro's appointment certainly came as a surprise as Benny McCarthy, Dan Malesela and Pico Mossimane have all been linked with the head coach position. The new Buccaneers coach expressed his excitement about joining the Soweto Giant and promise Pirate fans an exciting journey.

Riveiro To Pirates Fans

First of all, I want to say hello to all the Orlando Pirates fans. I am happy to join the club. The Pirates project is interesting and I'm looking forward to what lies ahead. It is an honor for me and my colleagues to take on the responsibility to establish such an institution and to serve the highest cause. Together with my support team, we look forward to arriving and joining the working group and player group to get started soon. We will work to create stories together and build a team we are proud of.

The Buccaneers also welcomed the arrival of Miguel Belver Estev as fitness coach and Tyrone Damons as goalkeeping coach. With all the sacking and signing the Orlando pirates have made so far this season, do you think they'll be able to compete favorably against the likes of the Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns? Using the numbers 1-10, what are their chances of winning any major trophy this season?
